Two-day fundraiser along Lake Erie, August 6-7, 2016, will benefit area kids battling life-threatening medical conditions
TOLEDO, Ohio — Jeni Hammond and Cindra Mielke, on behalf of Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana, will host their annual swim and golf cart poker run benefit August 6-7 to help grant the wishes of area kids battling life-threatening medical conditions. Registration is still open to the public. There are currently more than 100 eligible wish kids in northern Ohio awaiting the resources for their wish to come true.
The two-day event begins on Saturday, August 6 with a golf cart poker run. Participants will travel by foot or golf cart, beginning at Docker’s and concluding at the Kelleys Island Winery. Each location will have the opportunity to collect cards to win prizes, including gift baskets and bottles of liquor and wine. The cost is $10 per hand, with no limits on the quantity of hands played. Registration will take place at 10:00 a.m. at Dockers Restaurant.
On Sunday, August 7 at 11:30 a.m., the fun continues with the Kelleys Island Benefit Swim as longtime Make-A-Wish supporters Jeni and Cindra swim from Marblehead to Portside Marina to raise money for Make-A-Wish. This will be the pair’s 22nd year of swimming for the cause and together they have raised approximately $500,000 to date, helping to grant nearly 60 wishes. Spectators can enjoy free food from local restaurants and an after party at Dockers.
This year, Jeni and Cindra will swim to make the wishes of two local kids come true. Eleven-year-old Cameron, battling kidney disease, wishes to go to Legoland® California Resort. Alyssa, a fourteen-year-old fighting blood cancer, made a heartfelt wish for a trip to Hawaii with her family. Cameron and Alyssa will be there to cheer on the swimmers.
