“A wish is a powerful thing,” says Kelly. “It fills these kids with hope, strength and joy and it recharges their fighting spirit.”
Recently, our chapter granted the wish of 10-year-old Cincinnati wish kid Natalia. Fighting a brain tumor, Natalia wished to create a soup and have it served to the homeless – inspiring others in her community and beyond through her wish.
“Our impact reaches more than just these amazing kids,” Kelly shares. “As we saw with Natalia and every wish we grant, the wish experience strengthens families, unites communities and restores faith in humanity. That’s why Make-A-Wish is such an important local organization.”
The 2011 Wish Impact Study* quantified that 98 percent of parents feel the wish experience gives them the opportunity to be a ‘normal’ family again and 83 percent of adult former wish kids say they experienced improved physical health and strength from their wish.
“Our goal is to make the wish of every eligible child become a reality. We cannot do this alone. Make-A-Wish is a grassroots organization that relies extensively on local support to make wishes come true,” remarks Kelly.
Through rallying support from the community, raising awareness of the organization’s brand and educating the public on how to refer a child to Make-A-Wish, Kelly plans to continue to grow the Make-A-Wish mission to reach more children locally.
