In 2008, five friends from St. Xavier High School – Pete Kopf, of Kopf Real Estate; Matt Olson, of Merrill Lynch; David Geppert, of Cengage Learning; Dan Ryan, of Fifth Third Bank; and Mike Stagnaro, of Stagnaro Distributing – came together to create Cincinnati Golfers for Charity (CGC). Each year, the group plays 100-holes of golf in a day to raise money for local charities, including Make-A-Wish® Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana. CGC has since raised nearly $400,000 to help make local wishes come true. This year, the entire Cincinnati community rallied around the cause, helping CGC bring in a record-breaking donation total.
On May 30th in Hamilton, Ohio, supporters gathered to see the golfers play. The founders and all of CGC’s 36 members spent the weeks before collecting as many donations as they could from friends, relatives, neighbors and coworkers. The day of the event was filled with excitement and anticipation as the participants raised even more. In total, CGC raised more than $40,000 through the event - enough to grant the heartfelt wishes of five local children!
“We’re proud we’re able to make a significant difference for children battling illnesses and other challenges in our community,” said Pete Kopf, spokesperson for CGC. “Members of the CGC have been overwhelmed by the positive response and support we have received in previous years. We're proud to live in a community that again opened their hearts to help us make a difference in the lives of some very special Cincinnati area kids."
At this year’s, BIG Wish® Gala, the Cincinnati Golfers for Charity were inducted into the Chris Gracious Society of Strength. The society recognizes Make-A-Wish supporters who have donated between $250,000 and $499,000 to help make wishes come true.
“Together we will raise money to provide hope, opportunity & joy to the children of our community.” – The CGC Mission
