The Cold Stone Creamery 2010 “World’s Largest Ice Cream Social” looms large on Kate’s calendar. A year earlier, she enjoyed the Cold Stone Creation that a Make-A-Wish® kid helped concoct for the occasion.
But this year, the fate of the Creation is in Kate’s hands. Make-A-Wish® and Cold Stone Creamery granted her wish to be the Junior Tastemaster – a chance to work alongside Tastemaster Ray Karam. It all starts with her creativity and her tastebuds.
At Cold Stone headquarters in Scottsdale, Ariz., Kate and Ray brainstorm, sample, debate, gather opinions. Hours earlier, Kate arrived to find a personal assistant and official desk space, complete with a name plaque and pink accessories. Hundreds of Cold Stone employees greeted her.
Then she and Ray got to work on her long list of ideas, paring it down to only the best. They put their short list of concoctions to the test: Thirty Cold Stone employees vote on their work … and pick caramel-apple ice cream with extra apples, graham crackers and chocolate flakes as the winner. Kate notifies senior executives before attending a marketing meeting to discuss public-relations initiatives for promoting the new flavor.
In addition to the honor of having her Creation tasted by millions of customers, Kate’s wish is extraordinary because the money raised from the social will help grant wishes for other children.
And when Kate returns home, she has more than memories: Ray has six gallons of her flavor waiting.
