But there’s something Bizzy wants everyone to know: The Make-A-Wish experience made a profound change in her life long before she set sail on her wish.
Bizzy’s days of adventure are over for now. The beginning of a new school year is days away. She readjusts to life back home in Kentucky … and life without non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
The memories of her Mediterranean cruise will never be more vivid, so Bizzy captures them in a letter to Make-A-Wish®. She writes a story infused with gratitude, humor and wonder. She leaves nothing out about the people she met and all the historic sites she visited. Each port of call, from the Colosseum in Rome to the Parthenon in Athens, brought her seventh-grade social studies lessons to life.
But there’s something Bizzy wants everyone to know: The Make-A-Wish experience made a profound change in her life long before she set sail. The transformation started when she received news that her wish to go on a Mediterranean cruise would come true. She is convinced it helped her recovery from non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
“When I first found out, I was about to go into surgery and get my port. This really took some of the pressure off of my first big surgery,” Bizzy writes. “It was a HUGE motivator to get better and not to give up and I will never be able to thank you or repay you … I could not have had better encouragement or a more magnificent trip. All there is left to say is don’t ever stop granting kids’ wishes because you make a huge difference with children and families facing life-threatening illnesses.”
