Seven-year-old Evan loves everything about fishing and water. He can identify dozens of sea creatures he has learned about in books and nature documentaries.
Battling a life-threatening hematologic disorder, Evan spends much of his time stuck inside or in the hospital, but he still enjoys his favorite hobby by watching fishing shows on television.
When Evan got to choose his one true wish, he told Make-A-Wish® that he wanted to go to a place where he could see whales, dolphins and huge sea turtles in real life – he wished to go to Hawaii. “One of my greatest dreams is swimming with dolphins,” he said.
Two weeks before jetting off to Hawaii, on National Believe Day, Evan celebrated his wish come true with family and friends at a Macy's send-off party. Evan delivered letters to Santa from his classmates and completed a game of Hawaii trivia. He was geared up to explore the state of Aloha!
During his December 2014 trip, Evan went mahi-mahi fishing, snorkeled with the sea animals he admires most and swam with dolphins like he had always dreamed of doing. Evan and his family enjoyed a magical trip together and came home with a renewed sense of hope and joy.
Evan’s mom shared, “Evan’s wish was a fantastic way to close one chapter of our lives and start a new one where we can be a normal family again.”
