Seventeen-year-old Tyler is no ordinary teenager. Tyler faces daily struggles as he battles against two auto-immune disorders, which attack his body’s healthy tissue. To provide an escape from the pain he endures, Tyler listens to his favorite band, Korn.
When Tyler met with his wish granters, it was no surprise that this hardcore Korn fan wished to meet the band.
On his wish day, Tyler was treated like a member of the band. He and his family were picked up from their hotel in a limo. Once they arrived at Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Tyler and his family were taken backstage, where they were treated to snacks and refreshments.
As Tyler waited for the band, he chatted with roadies and the stage hands. Sébastien Paquet, a videographer for Korn, introduced himself to Tyler and gave him a video camera to document the concert. Moments later, Sébastien invited Tyler to the stage to watch the sound check.
Tyler’s smile was a mile wide as he watched Korn warm up.
“That was awesome. I was right there, I was right next to them,” Tyler said to Sébastien.
Tyler then returned to the backstage area to meet each band member personally.
He met Korn’s drummer, Ray Luzier. Ray autographed multiple items for Tyler, including a picture Tyler painted of the band. Tyler, a drummer himself, was elated when Ray gave him a pair of autographed drum sticks.
Then, Tyler met Jonathan Davis, the band’s lead singer. Jonathan has faced health issues of his own, as he and Tyler talked, they bonded over their similar life experiences.
“It really, really connected with me, really kind of deep,” Tyler said, of his talk with Jonathan. “It really felt good that they cared.”
Tyler met band members Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu and James “Munky” Shaffer as well, who also autographed Tyler’s painting.
His wish day was topped off with the concert of a lifetime. Tyler’s VIP treatment continued as he and his family watched the show from the best and closest seat in the house: the stage. Korn even invited Tyler onstage during the show.
After the concert was over, Ray gave Tyler the drumhead from the show, complete with his autograph to keep as a reminder of his incredible day.
“They made my wish come true,” Tyler said, smiling.
