The Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana (Make-A-Wish OKI) team is excited to welcome Katie Ferrell as their new Communications Manager based in the chapter’s headquarters in Columbus. Katie, an Ohio native and former television news anchor and reporter, was first introduced to Make-A-Wish through her work as a broadcast journalist at NBC and FOX stations in Missouri, Nebraska and Ohio. Now, after 12 years in the broadcast industry, she is thrilled to dedicate her expertise in sharing Make-A-Wish stories full-time.
"Some of my favorite stories during my time in the broadcast industry were Make-A-Wish stories,” Katie described. “It's a dream come true to work with such an amazing organization that changes children and their families' lives for the better." Make-A-Wish OKI’s President & CEO, Doug Kelly said, “Katie is a one-of-a-kind storyteller and we are thrilled to have her join our team. Make-A-Wish transforms lives by granting heartfelt wishes for kids battling critical illnesses. Katie’s skills will help us touch more hearts and inspire more people to get involved in their local community.”
Katie is a Society of Professional Journalists and Nebraska Broadcasters Association Award winner. She is most proud of her work with NBC4 in Columbus, Ohio that resulted in new legislation being introduced in the Ohio Legislature. In response to the fatal Fireball accident at the 2017 Ohio State Fair, Tyler’s Law would strengthen ride rules in the state, making rides safer for all Ohio families. It is anticipated to pass by the end of the year.
Katie is originally from Strongsville, Ohio, just outside of Cleveland. She has a degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Missouri where she met her husband, Danny. They live in the Columbus area with their two-year-old daughter, Tinsley, and their Yorkie, Fergie.

About Make-A-Wish® Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana
Make-A-Wish® creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. We are on a quest to bring every eligible child's wish to life, because a wish is an integral part of a child's treatment journey. Research shows children who have wishes granted can build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight a critical illness.
