Wishes have proven physical and emotional benefits that can give children with critical illnesses the strength they need to fight for better health. That might sound magical, but it takes the collective force of doctors, donors and volunteers – all working together to make the seemingly impossible possible.
World Wish Day celebrates the founding of Make-A-Wish: April 29, 1980, the day seven-year-old Chris Greicius received his heartfelt wish to be a police officer, and the idea of Make-A-Wish was born. It took a community of people to bring Chris’ wish to life and to found what is now the largest wish granting organization in the world, just like it takes a community of donors, volunteers, and medical professionals to make each wish come true.
This World Wish Day, help us get closer to our vision of granting the wish of every eligible child. Imagine future ‘My Life Now’ stories that could exist because of your support this World Wish Day. Even a small contribution could transform the life of a child.
Wishes take muscle. Wishes take you.
Ari is four years old and dealing with brain cancer.
But he does his best to continue enjoying some of his favorite activities, like singing and dancing to the Moana and Trolls soundtracks. Ari also loves to be outside playing on slides and swings, so it was no surprise to his family when he wished to have a playset of his very own.
Ari needs his wish experience to give him renewed energy and strength, and bring his family closer together. Don’t forget, even a small contribution can transform the lives of children with critical illnesses. Your help is needed to make wishes like Grayson’s come true. Ten-year-old Grayson is dealing with a brain malformation. He loves to be outside and visit local parks. When it came time for him to choose his wish, he thought of his experiences enjoying the outdoors and wanted to help others with similar challenges do the same, so Grayson wished to have a handicap-accessible playground built in a park near his house.
